Why the Hub

The Need Across California

Housing creates stability. Employment helps make that stability last.

The 2024 statewide Point-in-Time Count identified 9,310 Veterans experiencing homelessness across California. California has made meaningful progress, reducing Veteran homelessness by 1,279 people from 2023 to 2024, the largest decline of any state. Still, 69% of California Veterans counted were unsheltered.

Meaningful employment provides the income, purpose, and confidence needed to remain housed, recover, and build a future. A Veteran can have a key in hand and still be one financial setback away from losing stability.

The Solution

What the Hub Will Offer

Five services, from a first session at a Hub computer to 180 days of support after the hire.

Adults of different ages work at computers along a wall of windows while an instructor helps one of them
  1. Computers & Online Learning

Access to computers, internet, online learning, and digital skills support.

  2. Career Prep & Guidance

Career assessment, resume development, interview preparation, and identification of transferable military skills.

  3. Training & Credentials

Connections to education, training, and industry-recognized credentials.

  4. Employer Matching

  5. Ongoing Support

A dedicated navigator and 180 days of follow-up support after employment begins.

The Pathway

From First Visit to 180 Days on the Job

A dedicated navigator stays with each Veteran from the first career assessment to 180 days after the job begins. The Hub opens Dec 1, 2026; these photos show the support it will offer.

  1. Day 1

A navigator and a Veteran sit together at a table with a laptop and a folder, talking through her goals

    Enroll & Assess

A Veteran enrolls and meets a dedicated navigator. Together they complete a career assessment and name the skills that carry over from military service.

  2. Prepare

A Veteran answers a practice interview question as a career coach listens across the table

    Career Prep

With a resume under way, the Veteran practices interviews and builds digital skills at the Hub's computers.

  3. Train

A Veteran wires an electrical practice board as an instructor points to a terminal

    Training & Credentials

The Veteran works toward an industry-recognized credential through education or hands-on training that the navigator helps line up.

  4. Hire day

A hiring manager and a Veteran shake hands inside a bright workshop

    Employer Matching

A Veteran-friendly employer makes the hire: a job, an apprenticeship, or a paid work-based learning placement.

  5. Day 180

A Veteran on a work break laughs with his navigator over coffee outside his workplace

    Ongoing Support

The navigator keeps checking in for 180 days after employment begins, while the Veteran settles into the new job.
