Acceptance of these terms

Welcome. This website is run by the Veterans Transition Center of California ("VTC," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and VTC.

By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. That is your choice, and that is fine.

This is a free website for information. We are a nonprofit. We share news about our programs for veterans, and we accept donations. This is not a paid service. You owe us nothing to use it.

Who may use this site

Anyone may read this site. You do not need an account.

If you make a donation, you confirm two things. You are at least 18 years old. And you are allowed to use the payment method you choose.

Are you using the site for an organization? Then you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for that organization.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

If a change is important, we will try to make it clear. When you keep using the site after we post a change, that means you accept the new terms. It helps to check this page now and then.

Our content & intellectual property

The words, images, logos, graphics, and design on this site belong to VTC, or to the people who let us use them. The trademarks and logos shown here belong to VTC or to their owners.

You may read, print, and share our public information. That is fine for your own personal use, and for helping a veteran connect with our services. Please keep our name on it. And please do not change what it means.

Please do not copy the site to make money, sell our content, or pass our work off as your own. Would you like to use our content in another way? Ask us first. We are usually happy to help.

Acceptable use

We want this site to be safe and useful for everyone, including veterans living with disabilities. When you use the site, please agree not to:

  • Break the law, or use the site to harm, harass, or threaten anyone.
  • Try to break, overload, or gain access you should not have to the site, our servers, or our accounts.
  • Upload viruses, malware, or any harmful code.
  • Scrape, harvest, or collect data from the site with bots or automated tools, unless we give you written permission.
  • Copy or reuse our content in a way these terms do not allow.
  • Pretend to be VTC, our staff, or anyone else, or hide who you really are.

If you misuse the site, we may limit or block your access. We do this to protect other users and our mission.

Donations

VTC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 77-0431413). Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Online donations are processed by Fundraise Up and Stripe, and are subject to their terms and privacy policies.

When you give online, you will get a donation receipt for your records. Please keep it for your taxes.

We handle every gift with care. Do you think there is a mistake with your donation, or do you have a question about a gift? Please contact us. We will do our best to make it right. We review refund requests one by one.

Your gift helps Veterans in need in our community. Thank you.

Third-party links & services

This site may link to other websites. It also uses trusted outside services, such as our donation processors and analytics tools. We share these to be helpful.

We do not control those other sites and services. We are not responsible for their content or how they act. When you leave our site or use an outside service, that company's own terms and privacy policy apply. Please read them.

Disclaimer (the site is provided "as is")

We work hard to keep this site accurate and up to date. Even so, we provide the site and its information "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

This means we cannot promise a few things. We cannot promise the site will always work, be free of errors, or be free of harmful parts. And we cannot promise the information will fit your exact situation. Program details, who qualifies, and what is available can change.

The information here is general. It is not legal, medical, financial, or professional advice. For advice about your own situation, please talk with a qualified professional. Some places do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, VTC and its board, staff, and volunteers are not liable for indirect or unexpected damages from your use of this site. For example, lost data, or the site being down for a short time.

This limit does not take away any rights you have that the law does not let us limit. It does not apply to our own fraud, willful misconduct, or gross negligence. And it does not reduce or change VTC's commitment to accessibility, which we describe in our Accessibility Statement.

We keep this section narrow on purpose. We are a nonprofit that serves veterans, and we want to be fair.

Your privacy

We respect your privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using this site, you agree to that policy.

We also want this site to work for everyone, including veterans with disabilities. Read our Accessibility Statement to learn more, and to tell us how we can do better.

Governing law & venue

California law governs these terms. This is true even if you live in another state. We use California law no matter where you are.

Any legal dispute about these terms or your use of the site will be handled only in the state and federal courts in Monterey County, California. You and VTC agree to use those courts.

Notice to California residents

If you live in California, you have a consumer rights notice under California Civil Code Section 1789.3. Here it is, in the exact words the law requires:

The Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs may be contacted in writing at 1625 N. Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, California 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210 or (916) 445-1254.

General

These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the full agreement between you and VTC about your use of this site.

If a court finds any part of these terms invalid, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a part right away, that does not mean we give up the right to enforce it later.

You may not hand your rights under these terms to someone else. We may transfer ours, for example if our organization reorganizes or merges.
