Scan QR CodesFor today’s phones
A QR code is a small square pattern you'll see on menus, signs, and forms. Scanning one with your phone opens a website or menu instantly, with no typing needed.

Not sure which you have?
If your phone has an apple on the back, it’s an iPhone. If it has anything else, it’s almost certainly an Android.

Know what a QR code looks like
A QR code is a black-and-white square full of little patterns. You'll find them on restaurant tables, flyers, parking meters, and event signs.
It works like a shortcut. Scanning it saves you from typing out a long web address.

Open your camera
You scan a QR code using your phone's regular Camera app. Open it as if you were about to take a photo.
On your iPhone: On iPhone, just open the Camera app. Scanning is always ready to go.
On your Android: On Android, open the Camera app. On most phones the scanner is ready. On a few, you may need to turn on 'Scan QR codes' in the camera settings first.
You don't need a special app. The camera you already have does the job.

Point at the code
Hold your phone steady so the whole QR code shows on your screen. You don't need to take a picture, just aim.
Keep a steady hand and make sure there's enough light. Move a little closer if nothing happens.

Tap the link that appears
In a second or two, a little banner or link pops up on your screen. Tap it to open the menu, website, or form.
If no link appears, move closer or farther away until the whole square is clearly in view.

Make sure it's a code you trust
Only scan QR codes from places you trust, like a restaurant menu or an official sign. Scammers sometimes stick fake codes over real ones.
If a scanned code asks for a password or payment out of the blue, stop. That's a red flag, just like in the Scams lesson.
